So we know there will be Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar as of the Royal Rumble.
Thanks to various online sources we not only know two other matches are a done deal but The Undertaker will be back for Wrestlemania 31. At age 49, ‘Taker is the second-oldest superstar to compete at the Show of Shows. The Nature Boy Ric Flair is at least 10 12 years his senior so…yeah. This year is also shaping up to be The Phenom’s final Wrestlemania.
He hasn’t been seen or heard from since last year’s Wrestlemania. His Legendary Wrestlemania streak was not only broken (by Brock Lesnar, as Paul Heyman reminds fans at every opportunity) but moments after he went backstage after the match, he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.
Shifting gears for a moment, Triple H vs. Sting seems to be a done deal. Sting, who like ‘Taker is no longer the in-performer he once was has been a thorn in the side of The Authority after twice foiling their plans to screw over John Cena in a big way. WWE COO Triple H is semi-retired from the ring though based on the promos for his and Stephanie’s new workout video he’s more than able to go the distance. I think the real question is weather or not Triple H will keep his ego in check and not bury Sting.
The other confirmed match is John Cena vs. Rusev. Depending on how their Fastlane match is built, I’m sure that in the Wrestlemania rematch Rusev’s United States title will be on the line. Rusev has yet to be defeated by Pinfall or Submission since he WWE debut last year.
This brings the number of confirmed matches to 3:
- Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for WWE Championship
- Sting vs .Triple H
- John Cena vs. Rusev
…Bear in mind, Wrestlemania 31 is still two months away so…yeah. One unconfirmed matchup in the works would see The Undertaker up against Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania. It would certainly be a match to see if it happens!
…I forgot to mention this in my previous post but two of the surprise entrants at the Royal Rumble were Diamond Dallas Paige (sporting a DDP Yoga shirt to promote his business as well) and Bubba Ray Dudley. While DDP is long past his prime, he did eliminate Tyson Kidd before getting eliminated himself.
The real attention-getter was of course Bubba Ray Dudley, who hadn’t competed in a WWE ring in 10 years. While omitted from his WWE.com interview, we know he spent some time in TNA along with his brother D-Von and Kurt Angle. Speaking of his post-Royam Rumble interview, Bubba Ray comfirmed that wasn’t a one-time thing and as for his brother D-Von, he’s “Getting the tables”. As you can see in the vid, R-Truth held it down as D-Von’s stand-in =O
It’s not a question of if but when we will see The Dudley Boys in full form. If The New Age Outlaws can compete at their ages (not much younger than ‘Taker and Shawn Michaels), it should be a breeze for the Dudleys ^_^
