Charlotte Flair makes some interesting revealations in her Broken Skull Sessions interview

What We Learned from Charlotte Flair on Broken Skull Sessions

The 36 year old legend has barely been in the business for 10 years but she is already the G.O.A.T. of Women’s Wrestling. Period.

Her Broken Skull Sessions interview was highly anticipated and let’s just say a lot of expectations were probably exceeded.

Here’s some of the big things that were covered:

  • For those who might not know, a little family rivalry with her late brother Reid was what led to her getting into the business. Tragically, Reid Fleur passed away from a drug overdose in 2013. Following in their legendary father’s footsteps was Reid’s dream but it became Charlotte’s after he died.
  • One of the reasons Charlotte hasn’t been on TV for the last several months is because she recently married her fiance Andrade (Formerly in WWE, now in AEW). She revealed she did not think she could marry or date someone from outside the business and more so because she is a woman. She also said although they work for different companies, because he is also in the business he has an understanding and appreciation for what she goes through.
  • Charlotte admitted she used to constantly seeking approval from her peers and felt a sense of insecurity because of her pedigree. She didn’t have to do a tryout unlike the other 3 Horsewomen after all.
  • When asked, she revealed her Survivor Series match with Ronda Rousey was when she felt she could 100% perform on instinct. She didn’t comment on breaking Asuka’s then undefeated streak at ‘Mania 34 but she did note she got cashed in on right after bearing Asuka that year.
  • Probably the biggest topic most were expecting Austin to touch on was her relationship with Becky Lynch and she didn’t hold back. She plainly stated they are both Alphas and it’s nothing but business. No disrespect intended toward Lynch at their title swap last November either. While she didn’t confirm or deny there is legit bad blood between herself and Lynch, she made it clear she respects Lynch professionally and personally. The respect level went up even more since her return last summer. For now, they will remain on separate brands.
  • Charlotte also revealed she would like to have kids herself one day (She’s 36 years old. Lynch had her daughter at 33 and she’s 35 this year). My guess is she could work on that in the next two or three years so we’ll see.
  • Without trying to bash VKM, Charlotte talked about her being inserted into Wrestlemania 35’s main event with no build whatsoever. As a reminder, Vince came out and announced Charlotte was being added to the main event and that was it. Charlotte then suddenly won the Smackdown Women’s Championship out of nowhere and it became a winner takes all match. While Charlotte didn’t have a problem with being a part of the main event, she like everyone else felt the build could have been handled much better.
  • An interesting swerve was when Austin asked her about the ongoing situation with Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out a few months back. He gave her the option of simply saying “No Comment” but she did speak on the matter. She said she doesn’t see herself not wrestling Sasha Banks again. You have to keep in mind at the time this episode was likely recorded, Charlotte has been away from WWE for a few months. She was away when the walkout happened and successfully walked the tightrope of speaking her mind without sounding like she’s speaking for WWE at the same time.
  • Last but not least, Charlotte said the obvious: She’s best as Heel, not a babyface. Whenever it is she returns, it will be interesting to see if it will be on Smackdown….or RAW. Or NXT.

All I can really say in Austin is so deeply respected, he can get away with asking stuff the dirtsheets wished they could. I do think Charlotte picked now to do the interview mostly because she was available. She briefly referenced her appearance on that short-lived TV show USA Network did three years back. She was his first guest on that show.

I’ve got a short list of folks I’d like to see Austin get next and here it is:

  • Lacey Evans
  • Raquel Rodriguez
  • Bianca Belair
  • Sasha Banks (Second appearance)
  • Brock Lesnar (Second appearance)
  • Bron Breakker
  • Shawn Michaels
  • Shayna Baszler
  • Stephanie McMahon
  • JBL
  • Rikishi
  • Brie Bella
  • Jon Moxley (Austin might be able to get the Interview)
  • Vince McMahon (If he can make it happen)
  • Ilia Dragonov

….I could certainly keep going but that’s my short list. Time permitting, I hope we see some of those names over the last 12 to 16 months.
