Wrestlemania 39 Night 2 Results: No Titles Change Hands and two of them are now on a 3-0 Streak

WWE WrestleMania 39: When is it? Where is it held? Wrestlers and matches - AS USA

All I’m gonna say is Night 1 was the better of the two nights. It’s not even a contest and not just because of the emotional rollercoaster Night 2 had in every match. None of the titles that were contested changed hands on that note. I figure I get that out of the way now for those who might not know.

Here’s the match results for Night 2:

  • Brock Lesnar def. Omos
  • Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler win Women’s Tag Team Showcase
  • Intercontinental Champion Gunther def. Sheamus and Drew McIntyre
  • RAW Women’s Champion Bianca Belair def. Asuka
  • Edge def. “The Demon” Finn Balor
  • Snoop Dogg def. The Miz
  • Main Event: Undisputed WWE Heavyweight Universal Champion Roman Reigns def. Cody Rhodes

Before I continue, I need to pass this on. Triple H broke the sad news the mother of the 7 year old girl Bianca Belair danced with during her entrance died that morning. All I can really say is thoughts and prayers to that kid and more so given she performed in front of the world despite that. I want to make sure to say this first.

Lesnar/Omos felt like the second coming of Andre vs. Hogan. I’ll just put it like that. Lesnar oversold a little bit and from how it looked afterward, we might just see them clash again at some point. Lesnar looked like he had a lot of fun. Bobby Lashley did appear later in the night but unfortunately he did not have a match. There were rumors The Hurt Business might have a reunion at ‘Mania but that ended up not happening. Maybe like a lot of other things it was bumped to RAW the following night.

Going into WM39, Asuka was 0-3. Now, she is 0-4. Given their match had to follow the Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat Match, to borrow a phrase from Belair they showed up and showed out. Asuka took Belair into the deep end and it quickly became an endurance match. If not for her missing getting hit with the mist, the match might have had a different outcome. Belair is now on a 3-0 streak and all three matches involved a title.

I just noticed Asuka respond to a Tweet from someone who suggested she go back to Japan because of her dubious Wrestlemania record. She responded by saying she’s far from finished with WWE and eluded to her character likely taking an even more malicious turn since her return in January. More than most American wrestling fans give her credit for, Asuka understands the business. She knows in WWE, you can be elevated in defeat.

Finn Balor got busted open during his Hell in a Cell match with Edge and the match had to be stopped for a few minutes so the gash on his head could be stapled shut. There was another injury that happened after the match by the returning Shane McMahon. Triple H revealed Shane tore his quad during the impromptu match against the Miz. To everyone’s surprise–including Triple H he would admit–Snoop Dogg stepped in immediately to face his Wrestlemania Co-Host.

The main event was pretty wild to say the least. More so when The Usos, KO, Sami Zayn and Solo Sikoa got involved. Sikoa’s interference despite being banished from ringside ended up being the deciding factor in Reigns beating Rhodes. The late Jon Huber’s (Like Harper) son, who as a reminder is under contract with AEW was shown sitting ringside behind the commentary table alongside Brandi Rhodes and their daughter Liberty. Rhodes handed his weight belt to Huber’s son before getting in the ring.

No question this night will be very controversial to many. More so given its contrast to the previous night that ended on a high note storyline wise. I didn’t say this until now but Reigns did refute the rumors and reports he was planning to take time off. He plainly stated in an interview he has no plans on going anywhere anytime soon. I always figured that was the case given he IS featured in promotional posters for almost every other PLE this year.

I mentioned this earlier but two of the champions who retained are now on a 3-0 Wrestlemania streak. One is Bianca Belair. Roman Reigns is the other. In both of their cases, a title is involved on top of it. I think it’s probably fair to say Bianca Belair is now at the top of the Women’s Division on that note. She’s earned it now. I say that knowing her fellow NXT Alumni Rhea Ripley just became the new Smackdown Women’s Champion.

Report: Triple H Making WrestleMania 39 "Smaller", WWE Wrestlers Upset

Triple H declined to comment on the news of WWE being acquired by Endeavor, saying he wanted to keep the focus on the press conference on Wrestlemania weekend. It was the first question he was asked about. We’ll likely learn more sometime on Monday. Triple H did end the process by assuring everyone regardless of the sale, WWE’s not going anywhere. In other words, expect business as usual moving forwward. I don’t see Endeavor trying to mess with WWE too much on that note.

The next PPV will be Backlash next month. That PLE will take place in Puerto Rico.
